HOD Message

It gives me immense pleasure in welcoming you to the department of Agriculture and Forestry. It is a department where discipline and punctuality in conjunction with a conducive environment seeks to provide quality education development in leading areas of Agriculture.

The department has well qualified and experienced staff along with well-equipped full-fledged laboratory with modern audio visual aids to facilitate the learning process. Also, this department organizes field demonstrations, group discussions, mock interviews and PowerPoint presentations and visits to agricultural industries for overall development of students.

The fundamental objective is overall development of the farmers and students. Aim of this department is to impart quality and professional education to aspiring students. It persistently seeks and adopts innovative methods to improve the quality of education on a consistent basis. This Department has been consistently working towards the goal to produce highly skilled and scientifically oriented manpower through flexible, adaptive and progressive training programs because the future will call for more able, independent and client-oriented extension workers.

We impart teaching as well as training facilities to agriculture students for developing human resources in Agricultural Sciences. Besides quality teaching, the Department has sharp focus on carrying out research in agriculture and allied fields and disseminating the research findings among the farmers of the “Uttarakhand state for providing the security of sustainable livelihood to them.”The department is running four years degree programme of B.Sc. Agriculture and B.Sc. Forestry with full strength and excellent performance.

The Department has well qualified teaching and non-teaching staff , agriculture farm of 25 acre, well equipped labs and well established orchards of Litchi, guava, mango, citrus, as well as different fruits varieties in campus premises to provide practical training to the students. We have a well-established Hi-tech poly-house for off-season cultivation of vegetables and flowers. We have separate blocks for cultivation of some other Agricultural crops like Dill, Parsley, Thyme, Marjoram, Basil etc. Our main demonstration blocks contain more than 200 species of different ornamental plants, most of the species of fruit plants from temperate and subtropical regions as well as field crops. Mushroom cultivation lab, Soil Testing facilities and collection of butterflies and other insect’s pests in Entomology lab are some of the other top attractions of the department.



The Department has established close linkages with the State Departments of Agriculture, Horticulture and Animal Husbandry; Agriculture extension agencies, ICAR Institutes, Agro-input supplying Agencies and NGOs existing in the operational area to provide better connectivity with current trends in Agricultural Sciences to the students.
